What is it like to be on Catholic Answers Live?

On Friday November 3rd, 2017 I was the second hour guest on Catholic Answers Live – a spot normally reserved for the likes of Jimmy Akin or Tim Staples. Yikes!

Luckily I wasn’t nervous at all.A kind parishioner encouraged me by telling me that millions of people would be listening to the show expecting to hear a word from God. That helped ease my nerves so much that I printed it out and taped it to my monitor for the show.

To ensure a quality broadcast, I put this not-at-all-pretentious sign on my office door.

After inadvertently blocking CA from reaching me via Skype, we managed to connect seconds before the show segment began . . . And we were off.

Here’s what the audience saw:

Here’s what my side of the screen looked like:

The show went well. I didn’t throw up or choke or pass out. The host, Cy, and I I got a brief preview of questions in real time on a Google Doc, so they were not a complete surprise, and we could discuss which ones to take during the breaks. (We took all of them.) The callers were great – one thing I really appreciate about CA Live is the two-way kindness that generally exists between the host, guest, and callers.

I didn’t watch the stream or combox on Facebook, but I got some screen shots. One guy had a good eye for books!

Finally, I managed to get in a Baptist beer joke near the end.

Overall, it was a great experience!
